L6: Cervical LNs Dissection Flashcards
(33 cards)
Def of Neck Nodal Dissection
Surgery to examine and remove lymph nodes of neck
Types of Neck Nodal Dissection
Types of Selective Neck Nodal Dissection
Indications of Radical Block Dissection
All carcinomas of head & neck except cancer lip.
Structures Removed in Radical Block Dissection
Structures Retained in Radical Block Dissection
Incisions for Radical Block Dissection
Goblet Incision
Why is Goblet Incision Bad?
It is bad incision due to:
- Sloughing & necrosis which occurs at the center part of the incision (area of least blood supply) - exposure of internal carotid artery → infection & hemorrhage → death.
Revise Steps of Radical Block Dissection from notes
..
Def of Modified Radical Block Dissection
Excision of all lymph node groups removed by radical neck dissection with preservation of one or more of following structures:
- Spinal accessory nerve.
- Internal jugular vein.
- Sternomastoid muscle
Types of Modified Radical Block Dissection
Def of Functional Neck Dissection
Excision of all lymph node groups removed by the radical neck dissection with preservation of all of the following structures:
- Spinal accessory nerve.
- Internal jugular vein.
- Sternomastoid muscle
Def of Extended radial Neck Dissection
Def of Bilateral Block Dissection
2nd side is carried after 4-6 weeks allowing venous collaterals to develop
Def of Selective Neck Dissection
- Refers to any type of lymph node removal where there is preservation of one or more lymph node groups removed by radical neck dissection
what is SUPRAHYOID BLOCK DISSECTION?
(LEVEL I-II)
Structures Removed in SUPRAHYOID BLOCK DISSECTION
Indications of SUPRAHYOID BLOCK DISSECTION
Carcinoma of the lower lip
Incision in SUPRAHYOID BLOCK DISSECTION
(Visor incision)
- Curved incision from mastoid process of one side to opposite mastoid reaching down to hyoid
SUPRAOMOHYOID NECK DISSECTION
(LEVEL I-III)
Structures Removed in SUPRAOMOHYOID NECK DISSECTION
Indications of SUPRAOMOHYOID NECK DISSECTION
Oral cavity malignancy
EXTENDED SUPRAOMOHYOID DISSECTION
(LEVEL I-IV)
