Q

Platelet count exercise guidelines

A

< 10,000 usually transferred
<20,000: ADLs, AAROM - AROM (no antigravity/resistive ex. Guard carefully)
20,000 - 30,000: Light ex (no PROM); light AROM; walking as tolerated
30,000 - 50,000: AROM; submax isometrics; stationary bike; walking as tolerated; aquatics; NO prolonged stretches or resistive exercises
50,000 - 150,000: Min-Mod resistive ex; sexual intercourse; MMT w/o restrictions; swimming; low bench stepping; bicycling w/o grade
> 150,000: unrestricted

16
Q

Hemoglobin exercise guidelines

A

< 8: No exercise (red flag to discuss w/ physician)
8 - 10: Light exercise permitted; no aerobics
10 - 12: Low-impact and low-intensity aerobics (stationary bike), isometrics, and resistive ex permitted

17
Q

Hematocrit exercise guidelines

A

< 25%: no exercise

> 25%: light ex permitted, progression to resistive exercise when Hct reaches 30%

18
Q

WBC count exercise guidelines

A

< 5,000 with fever: No exercise permitted

> 5,000: Light exercise permitted w/ progression to resistive ex

19
Q

Glucose: hypoglycemia

A

< 60 mg/dL, or a sudden drop of elevated levels for individuals w/ diabetes

20
Q

Normal fasting glucose

A

60 - 110 mg/dL

ACSM values: 60 - 99

21
Q

Glucose: diabetic border

A

> 126 mg/dL (measured on 2 different days)

22
Q

Glucose: red flag levels

A

< 70 mg/dL or > 250 mg/dL at the start of exercise

300 - > 350 mg/dL: risk of diabetic ketoacidosis

23
Q

A1C normal reference range

A

4% - 6%
Goal is to maintain consistent levels below 7% (correlates to average daily level below 170 mg/dL. A1C above 10% require immediate insulin therapy)

24
Q

ABG: pH

A

acidosis < 7.35 - 7.45 < alkalosis

25

ABG: pCO2

A

35 - 45 mm Hg

26
Q

ABG: pHCO3

A

22 - 26 mm Hg

27
Q

ABG: pO2

A

60 - 100 mm Hg

28
Q

ABG: Panic values

pH, CO2, O2, HCO3, O2 sat

A
pH: < 7.20, or > 7.6
pCO2: < 20 or > 70
pO2: < 40
pHCO3: < 10 or > 40
O2 sat: <60%
