less trauma
good visualization of torsion

Technically challenging
twists still possible – problems with omentopexy done too far from pylorus

Hypocalcemia

Diagnosis of LDA

A

Refuse grain

Tympany in left flank (Auscultation percussion results in a “ping” - viscus distended with liquid and gas) – distention is caused because the abomasum is between rumen and body wall/ L flank

A

Dont usually need to do . Aspirate fluid to determine what structure it is.
Rumen pH > 7
Abomasum pH < 5
