Lecture 6 P1 Flashcards
(15 cards)
Function of nervous system?
Control and coordinate body functions by regulating organ systems
Functional units of nervous system
Neurons
Interneueon vs intra neuron
Intraneuron is a single neuron using a change in membrane polarity to power down. Interneuron occurs in the CNS between 2 neurons
What is a tract
A bundle of neuron axons in the CNS
What is nuclei?
Cluster of neuron cell bodies (in CNS)
What are nerves
Bundle of neuron axons in the (PNS)
What is a ganglia
A cluster of neuron cell bodies in the (PNS)
Go study nervous system chart
What is the node of randier?
Axon segments that allow action potentials to jump across Schwann cells
What makes a axon myelinated?
How do myelinated axons communicate?
Through axon collaterals
What are the 3 structural classifications of Neurons?
Pseudopolar (unipolar, 1 dendrite branch),Bipolar (2 branches), and multipolar (more than 2 branches)
What are the 3 functional classifications of neurons?
Sensory, inter neuron(somatic/visceral), motor neuron (somatic) and (autonomic —> viscera)
What do the 3 functional classes of neurons do?
Sensory (sense environment), inter neuron (integrates sensory input —> initiates motor output), motor neurons (carry out signal from inter neuron)
What’s a synapse?
Junction between 2 neurons, pre synaptic is the “sending” one that has action potential, and post in the “receiving” one
