Hermeneutics is the “ science of interpretation.” Hermeneutics focus on what the text would have meant to the original audience.
Historical criticism is a major element in determining the context of a passage.
Textual criticism is the science of determining the original wording of scripture.
When you exegete a passage, you correctly interpret it by “ pulling out” of the text its meaning.
Eisegesis is the opposite of Exegesis which is reading a meaning into a text. Eisegesis starts with an already formed/desired interpretation, and then seeks to force that understanding onto the scriptures.
Theology is the study of the words of God or the doctrine of God.
