Most of them.

Affects the reflectivity of the surface.

What do a lot of people (especially beginners) think is the way to change reflectivity?
Change the specular value. But that’s just overriding the actual physical properties in the real world. Because every object in the real world actually has reflectivity. It’s just that the surface is so rough in some instances that you can’t see it.

What does the ‘normal’ value in material properties do?
It’s the bump - if you need a bumpy surface. But you need something to plug into it.

Subsurface scatter.
Light’s not just hitting the icing and bouncing off. Is entering the material and bouncing around inside. Similar to human skin.

It’s how far the light bounces around inside the object.

If the icing is pink, a slightly red pink. Like shocking pink if the icing colour is pastel pink.
Apparently there’s very little info online about subsurface colour but that’s what the guy figured looks most right.

The icing looks waxy or off somehow.

Puts a line around the current selection.

Increase the size of the light source.

Under render settings/colour management/view transform/false colour. You want things to be just on grey or above grey. Focus on like the corner of the icing. Can be a little overexposed (green) but not too much. Can control with the lamp power.

How does changing the rendering samples affect the render time?
It’s linear: doubling the samples would double the render time.

Tell me about noise.
Whatever render sampling value you use, there will always be noise. You can use a de-noiser after rendering to get rid of noise. It’s built into blender.

Hope do you activate the de-noisier?
(with engine switches to cycles) View Layer Properties tab/passes/data/denoising data(on)

How do you access the compositor?
Compositor tab along the top.

What does the compositor do?
Shows everything that happens to your render after the render is finished. You. Can add nodes that add glow, glare, colour grading, all sorts of things.

How do you add and set up a denoiser node in the compositor?
Shift A/ search for denoise/ click to add.
Connect the image render node noisy image output and connect to the image input of the denoise node.

Why won’t changes to the composite section affect the render?
You have to be using the compositor when the render is generated.
If you don’t want to have to do another render, go to the bottom and set it to live view, click the little picture and set it to render result, disconnect and reconnect a node, then ctrl space will maximise the view. Dunno why this is easier than doing another render.

Are modifier settings flexible? As in, can you go back and change the settings of a modifier later?
Yes. (maybe just until I apply it, at which point it disappears and becomes a permanent feature of the mesh. Not sure though.

What do you adjust on the solidify modifier settings on the icing?
thickness, and offset. and crease I think (later)

What do you to before you start making drips on the icing?
Hide the solidify modifier in edit mode (just the third box) so that you can see what you're doing in edit mode, but it's still visible in object mode and rendering mode.

How do you enable symmetry when sculpting?
Click on the X or Y or Z in the top right.

How do you reference more than one object when creating particles?
Reference a collection rather than an object. Simply put the objects you want to reference into the same collection.

What's the shortcut to create a loopcut?
control + R (scroll to increase the loops, click, then hover to place). Just have to have the object in edit mode, don't have to select vertices. Can also create vertical ones - try hovering your mouse over the vertices at the top and bottom.
