Hyperbole

A severe exaggeration for effect.

Understatement

A form of irony that intentionally minimizes the importance of an idea or fact for effect.

Oxymoron

Two words of opposite meanings brought together in an emphatic way/to creat emphasis, to make the reader really think about a twist or a blend of words.

Paradox

A statement which seems on its face to be self contradictory or absurd yet it turns out to make good sense.

Stream of consciousness

A type of writing that presents the inner thoughts of a character in a possibly endless stream.

Anachronism

The representation in literature of a person scene object, ect. In a time period that would be impossible historically.

Repetition

Words, phrases, sounds, and/or lines are repeated to add emphasis and/or meaning to a poem.

Alliteration

The repetition of words letters or sounds.

A soft sounding letter or word repetition.

Consonance

A hard or harsh sounding

Tragedy

A serious drama about a person often of a high station in life who experiences sudden personal reversals often ends with a catastrophic event.

A brief tale that emphasizes a moral and usually has animals as the main characters.
