What are chylomicrons?

protein-wrap lipid drops released by the small intestine that are delivered back to the venous system by lymphatic system


What is chyle?

Milky white lymph that contains chylomicrons


In which vein does lymph return to the body?

Brachiocephalic vein


Where is the thoracic duct?

L2 to the base of the neck


What part of the body does the thoracic duct drain?

Largest lymph vessel, it drains the left side of the body (head, neck, left thorax and left upper limb) and the lower limbs


What part of the body does the right lymphatic duct drain?

much smaller limb
drains Right side of the head, neck, thorax and upper limb


Where is lymphocyte production?

in the bone marrow. matures in thymus


What is the spleens function in the lymphatic system?

Act as a filter (giant lymph node)


What are lymph nodes?

found along the path of lymph vessels.
serve as filter points
contains lymhocytes and macrophages
passive transport


Why is there so many nodes associated with the pulmonary system?

major entrance point for unwanted vectors


What are the nodes for the pulmonary and tracheal regions?

Bronchopulmonary nodes
Tracheabronchial nodes
paratracheal nodes
bronchomediastinal trunk


Where does the lower left lobe of the left lung drain?

right or left bronchomediastinal trunk
partially inferiorly to the inferior Phrenic lymph (which drain the pericardial lymph nodes)


Where does lower lung lobes drain?

partially inferiorly drain to the inferior phrenic lymph nodes (which drain the pericardial lymph nodes)


Where does the sub pleural network drain to?

Bronchomediastinal trunk via the tracheobronchial nodes or paratracheal nodes ( communicates with the peribronchial network)
