John Mackay Statue Facts
- the Mackay family donated a total of $1.5 million to the university - statue is facing Virginia City - statue sculptor is Gutzon Borglum, who later carved Mount Rushmore - sculptor only had a picture of Mackay's face, the body is modeled after the mayor of Virginia City at the time

- oldest building on campus - once housed admin offices and the library - has all yearbooks from when the University began printing (besides 2) - placed on National Register of Historic Places in 1974 - graduates used to sign their name on the bell until the 1970s when it was considered graffiti
