Math unit 3 vocabulary Flashcards
(14 cards)
Parallel lines
Coplanar and don’t intersect.
Perpendicular lines
Intersect at 90 degree angles.
Skew lines
Not coplanar, not parallel, don’t intersect
Parallel planes
Planes that don’t intersect.
Transversal
A line that intersects two coplanar lines at two different points. The transversal t and the other two lines r and s form eight angles.
Corresponding angles
Lie on the same side of the transversal t, on the same sides of lines r and s.
Alternate interior angles
Nonadjacent angles, that lie on opposite sides of the transversal t, between lines r and s.
Alternate exterior angles
Lie on opposite sides of the transversal t, outside lines r and s.
Same-side interior angles/Consecutive interior angles
Lie on the same side of the transversal t, between lines r and s.
Rise
The difference in the y-values of two points on a line.
Run
The difference in the x-values of two points on a line.
Slope
The ratio of rise to run.
Point-slope form
y-y1 = m(x-x1), where m is the slope and (x1, y1) is a given point on the line.
Slope-intercept form
y=mx+b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept
