MOD 3 - COURSE 4 - PT 3 Flashcards

1
Q

What are some important storage conditions for feed?

A
  • suitable storage until expeiry date
  • diet present in cages - must be discoarded regularly and replaced with fresh food
  • high fat diet - provided fresh food every day
  • during transport - diet - remain dry and protected from temp
  • no chemcial = should be transported with food -
  • food must be inspected upon arrival

4
Q

why can sterilization cause problems

A
  • reduce contents of unstable nutrients i.e. vitamina A ad E
  • so this will need to be adjusted for in the feed

Q

whats the difference between fixed an dvariable formular for feed

A
  • fixed formula - recipie doesnt change for partcilular diet
variable formula - final product = kept as constant as possible - amount of individual ingredients - adjusted for variation in nutrient level of raw material

8
Q

what are the positives and negatives of expanded pellets

A
  • as they are more voluminous - claimed that they reduce food intake - but still with higher avilability of nutrients , increase food coversion mreduce microbial counts and reduce wastage as compared to teh conventional extruded pellets

Q

what are the disadvantages of using a purified diet

A
  • lower palatability - need for acclimitization off normal food
  • may be some unknown nutirents that this is created a shortage - i.e. some natural contaminents - chromium and vanadium
  • can be hard to pellet this diet - so there can be increased spillage (can be given as powder)
