What are probiotics and prebiotics, and how do they support health?
Probiotics: Cultures of living organisms (like those found in yogurt, kombucha)
Can help manage certain conditions but do not cure diseases. like reducing risk of diarhea
Prebiotics: Carbohydrates that act as food for microbiota
Found in foods like asparagus, garlic, and banana (plants)
Support the health of the microbiome
What are ulcers and examples
Ulcers: Weakened or damaged areas of the digestive tract lining
Canker sores: Found in the mouth, usually heal on their own
Peptic ulcers: Found in the esophagus, stomach, or small intestine
Often caused by H. pylori infectio

GERD is chronic version
aka heart burn, acid reflux

diverticulitis
-diverticula=damage to wall of large intestine (bubbles)
-when its inflamed its just itis
-when bleeding its diverticulosis (o=hemoglobined)
-caused by not enoguh fibre and a lot of animal fats
gallstones
-mineral deposits in gallbladder
-painful when gallbladder exctrets bile as it constricts around stone
-diets high in sugar/carbs/saturated fats
how are nutrients absorbed in the body
-thru microvili and into blood, goes directly to liver first
-livers the bouncer. can detoxify/use/send out
-all nutrients except large lipids and fat soluble things. these go trhu lymphatic sys which ends up in blood later
