Motivation Flashcards
B = f (P.E)
Behaviour is influenced by interactions between people and the characteristics of the environment.
Extrinsic versus Intrinsic
Extrinsic - rewards and punishments
Intrinsic -
Cognitive psychology
emphasises the “energy… of internal thoughts and feelings as the primary source of motivation”.
Motivation is centred around beliefs/perceptions, as well as needs/purpose in learning.
Maslow and Porter
Basic Needs
Security and Safety
Porter adds new levels at the top; autonomy and self-actualisation.
Autonomy highlights the importance attached to individuals participating in decisions that affect him or her as well as the significance of having a voice in setting job-related goals. Providing a platform for staff to work independently is also noted.
The ICT training provided so far has been delivered in small groups rather than independently and there hasn’t been an opportunity for staff to be involved with setting goals or making decisions.
Owens (2007)
“individuals are motivated by their own perceptions, needs and characteristics”.
(Mulford, 2008).
“teacher empowerment impacts students’ academic achievement”
Atkinson
people are driven by two learned characteristics; “the desire to achieve success or the desire to avoid failure.”
