Motivation is based on financial rewards, focuses on efficiency and productivity, scientific management

Good for factories, not everyone is motivated by money

2 factor theory of hygiene factors and satisfaction, motivation only happens if both are present, jobs should be enriched

Job enrichment allows progression, not everyone likes responsibility

Hawthorne effect (motivated when social needs are met), motivation from being valued, team working and groups

5 levels needed, work from bottom to top

Physiological, safety , social , esteem and self actualisation

Not realistic as people don’t reach the top, not everyone has the same needs

What are the 3 components of Vrooms expectancy theory?
Valance, instrumentally and expectancy
What is Valance?
Where they do a task if they think they will get a good reward (financial and non)
What is Instrumentality?
An individual needs to believe that an action will lead to a certain result
What is Expectancy?
The individuals belief in the likelihood of them being able to achieve the target
What are intrisric rewards?
Positive feelings after a task
What are Extrinstic rewards?
Material rewards like money

May struggle to be further motivated if they have all benefits
What is Motivation?
The will and desire to work harder
What is a Movement?
Rewards and punishment (temp)
What is labour turnover and how do you calculate it?
Rate that people leave

What is productivity?
Output per worker
What is efficiency?
Producing at a low cost, using few resources
What are the 3 variables that influence the motivation of staff?
Company culture, managing staff, financial rewards
