21
Q

How do we define non injurious?

A

Punctures to the point of veterinary care - shaving and antibiotics and possibly stitches

Number of events

22
Q

What is a script for normalising RG plan A

A

I know it looks like Fido is being evil and scary but it turns out that this is very normal behaviour for dogs. It is an argument between the dogs about something they both want. It’s like kids having a squabble over a toy.

23
Q

If there are big injurious over RG what has to happen?

A

Strict management

24
Q

Why do we bring in strict mgmt when there are big injurious

A

Behv mod is never a guarantee. You never get perfection and one slip could cause a big injury.

We cannot risk it.

25
If non-injurious but intolerable to the owner or a dog is being made fearful, whats plan B?
Mgmt and Bmod. We want to get the frequency down
26
So what is "intolerable"
Extremely frequent - daily, most interactions Very distressed owner - can't live like this
27
What should we make sure we highlight to the owner if it's just the owner saying "I don't want dogs arguing in my house"
It's going to be an expensive option - time, commitment and financial. Nothing IS an option here.
28
Is there a middle ground when talking about intolerable?
Mgmt around the contentious resources Opportunistic DRI but no homework? No formant set ups/h/work Training When it comes up
29
What is the intervention threshold
Your personal bias about when to intervene
30
Why do we need to be aware of our bias?
We need to look at each case on it's own merits, not from our bias point of view which will depend on our history/experiences
31
What are the exceptions to having a low intervention bias.....
Injuries or fear Owner welfare
32
How do we handle clients' biases and distress?
Normalise normal behaviour Be empathetic and not dismissive Use gradual and empathetic repetition (client D&C!) Nudge them, don't shove them
33
What is a double tragedy in terms of people training??
People using aversive to P+ NORMAL behv!
34
What are some good scripts about dog dog squabbles
I know it really seems that way, it's upsetting, and it's tough to get used to but this is normal. Isn't it interesting how our buttons get pressed by this stuff. Bu interestingly it's just a spat between the dogs, they are having an argument.
35
What B Mod can we use for RG VIC?
Vic is upset. Counterconditioning or DRI
36
What about dogs who are Mugging, bullying, harassing and hazing? Upset or not?
Not upset! DRI &/or P-
37
How do we aim feedback at the perp when we want to T/o one specific dog? Should we use their name?
No, I don't think we should use their name because we use their name to get their attention for training and for important behv such as recall
38
What other options do we have?
A different version of "too bad" NRM, for each dog. Use in training for each individual to build up the association Let the dog dope out informal cues such as human gaze
39
What is the problem with multiple NRMs?
Expensive for owners, we often get names wrong let alone NRM!
40
What is the problem with letting dogs dope out informal cues?
Initial confusion!
41
Why should we beware carpet bomb aversive?
Its a non contingent random aversives the dogs have no way to work out how to avoid it
42
What about mugging in multidog households?? What mgmt and bmod
Mgmt - kibble scattered in the grass B mod - are the perps upset? - no! this is likely a sport Why? P- makes the problem go away. Work on one perp at a time. Start with the worst offender & t/o him every time he does it. Big magnitude - excluded from group out and take our on own on lead
43
What is contextual hazing
Hazing in a specific context. Bullying event
44
Why do we start with the worst offender in hazing
He might be starting the fights so we may get a reduction in the others for free. Bang for buck!
45
Are proximity/dislike/intolerance upset?
Yes - CC will work here
46
What do we want to do with uncomfortable intolerant dogs?
+CER to the other dog DRI
47
What's the DRI for the intolerant dog
A - other dog nearby B - target/retreat/sit C - food attention
48
What's the CC for the intolerant dog
CS - other dog nearby US - happy talk/chicken/attention
49
What is its intolerance to do with resources? DRI
A - Vic approaches B - Retreat/crate -----> distance strongly recommended. Lots of prompting be his bodyguard! C - Food/attention/Privacy
50
What is its intolerance to do with resources? DRI for the VIC
A - dog on lap B - stay away/down stay/go to bed C - food/attention or P-
51
What is its intolerance to do with resources? CC
CS - vic approaches US - happy talk + bonus + vic ushered away
