What is Lordosis?

Inward curvature of the spine. Arched back appearance.

2

What is Kyphosis?

exaggerated posture or outward curvature of spine. Hunchback appearance

3

What is scoliosis?

A side curvature of the spine. Look for rotation of spine.

4

How are all of these treated and prevented?

T = Physical therapy, braces, if severe then surgery P = slow progression of disease

5

What is the prevention of these deformities of the spine?

Good posture

6

What is a herniated disc?

Part of a disc protrudes out and damages or compresses some of the nerve.

7

Signs and symptoms of herniated disc?

numbness or tingling that will go down one or both arms or legs. Pain worsens with a sneeze, a cough, bending - more pressure

8

Treatment and prevention of herniated disc?

T = usually rest, analgesics, if severe then surgery P = proper lifting

9

What is osteoperosis?

A metabolic disorder in which the bone does not absorb enough calcium. Most common in women over 50 yo

10

S & S of Osteoperosis?

back pain and aching joints

11

Treatment and prevention of Osteoperosis?

T = Phosphate and calcium supplements, multivitamins and pain relief. P = prevent fractures, weight exercises for treatment as well

12

What is Osteomyelitis?

Infection of the bone. Entered from fracture or bacteria in blood stream

13

Signs and symptoms of Osteomyelitis?

Those of an infection: fever, chills, sweating, pain and tenderness over affected bone drainage from infection site

14

Treatment of Osteomyelitis?

T = antibiotics - eliminate bacteria, eliminate the infection

15

What is Pagets Disease?

High rate of bone turnover. Bone resorbed and replaced with bone of more fibrous tissue.

16

Signs and Symptoms of Pagets Disease?

Swelling of bones, dull pain comes on slowly - tingling and numbness headache and vision loss due to too much calcium in blood

17

Treatment and Prevention for Pagets Disease?

T = Physical therapy P = stop bone malformation

18

What are dislocations?

Where part of the joint has come out of it normal placement.

19

Signs and symptoms of dislocations?

Deformed appearance Pain at joint

20

Treatment and Prevention of dislocations?

T = manual placement or realignment P = proper lifting

21

What is a Fracture?

Break in bone

22

Signs and symptoms of fractures?

acute pain after injury bruising swelling

23

Treatment of fractures?

immobilize joint sometimes surgery is necessary

24

What is Osteoarthritis?

inflammation of joints and bones causing degeneration of joint cartilage and formation of new bone.

25

S & S of Osteoarthritis?

Deep aching joint pain Stiffness and swelling in morning crackling sound deformity maybe

26

Treatment and Prevention of Osteoarthritis?

T = No cure, minimize pain and imflammation P = None

27

What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

genetic inflammatory disease joints can destroy cartilage, deform joints

28

S & S of Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Malaise, low grade fever fatigue

29

Diagnose Rheumatoid Arthritis by?

Blood test - rheumatoid factor

30

Treatment and Prevention of Rheumatoid Arthritis?

T = stop inflammation to avoid joint deformity P =
