What is arthritis?
A disease involving inflammation of a joint
Causes pain and stiffness
What is rheumatoid arthritis
The most serious form of arthritis
Chronic autoimmune disease that affects lungs, heart, blood vessels, muscles and eyes
Eventually leads to destruction of bones, ligaments, tendons and joint capsule causing deformity and loss function
What is ankylosing spondylitis
A chronic progressive disorder that mostly impacts the spine
What is osteoarthritis?
Most common form of arthritis
Caused by wear and tear of a joint
What is gout?
Metabolic disease that is caused by an accumulation of uric acid in the blood
What is osteoporosis?
Thinning and weakening of the the bone
Affects the spine, femur, pelvis, hands and wrists
What is osteomyelitis?
Infection of the bone and bone marrow
Bacteria invaded the bone through trauma like an open fracture or surgery or a staph infection
What is a contusion
Purple bruise looking patch
A soft tissue bleed with slow absorption
What is a sprain?
Hyperextension of a joint leading to a tearing of the capsule and ligaments
Rest, ice, compress and elevate
What is whiplash?
The sudden force that stretches and tears the muscles and tendons in the neck
What is a strain?
A pulled muscle due to over stretching muscles and tendons
What is carpal tunnel syndrome?
Caused by inflammation and edema of the synovial lining of the tendon sheaths
