what is an interval?
The space between the two pitches.
What is a melody?
Extended musical structure that can be built from intervals.
1:2n means what?
When two things sound the same pitch class but are in different registers.
What is a Pitch class?
A note (ex. 1:2n) low and high note. (all of the c’s and all of the b’s)
What is the pitch class collection?
It can be a mode, or a scale.
What is a diatonic collection?
(Tonic + Mode) All 7 white keys (AKA Heptatonic Scale.)
What is the Scale?
A diatonic collection + tonic + mode.
what is a Mode?
it is the relationship between the notes (tone + semitone) which can start on any note.
Chromaticism
It is a stylistic choice to step out of a diatonic collection. The mode and scale do not change with the addition of sharps and flats.
