Flashcards in Natural Resources Deck (14):
The parts of the land, sea, and atmosphere in which organisms are able to live.
Resources definition (in geography)
A resource is any physical material that is needed for the sustainment of life.
Resources can be classified on various points of view :
1) Chemical nature
2) Availability and abundance
On the basis of chemical nature, resources are classified into
Organic resources (Plants,animals,fossil fuels)
Inorganic resources (air,water,metallic minerals)
Mixed resources (soil)
Solid naturally occurring INORGANIC substance. (But it should satisfy some other properties too)
Organic matter present in soil
Plant and animal residues at various stages of decomposition, cells and tissues of soil organisms, and substances synthesized by soil organisms.
On the basis of abundance and availability, resources are classified into
Resources that are present in UNLIMITED QTY in nature. They are not likely to be exhausted by human use.
Resources that are present in LIMITED QTY in nature. They are likely to be exhausted by human use.
Exhaustible resources are further divided into 2
Non renewable resources
Resources that can replace or replenish itself IF MANAGED WISELY.
