25
What does it mean if the RA displays amber dashes?
The radio altimeter data is invalid
26
What are the GPWS modes?
1 - Excessive sink rate 2 - Excessive Terrain Closure Rate 3 - Altitude loss after take off 4 - Unsafe terrain clearance in the landing configuration 5 - Glideslope 6 - Altitude call-outs
27
What height will you get mode 1 and 2 alerts and warnings?
Only when aircraft is less than 2450 feet above local terrain
28
When are GPWS inactive?
All modes are inactive below 50 ft AGL and above 2450 ft AGL
29
How can you stop unwanted GPWS alerts
Can inhibit the Terrain Awareness Alerting and Display Function by selecting TERRAIN inhibit switch within 15nm of take off, approach or landing at: - an airport not contained in the EGPWS airport database - airport has no approved instrument approach procedure - longest runway is less than 3510 ft
30
How can you select terrain display?
Use the DSP SEL pb
31
When will terrain not be shown?
If it is more than 2000 ft below the reference altitude or if terrain elevation is within 400 ft of the runway elevation nearest to the aircraft
32
How do you test the GPWS system?
By pressing the GPWS-GS pb before the first flight of the day
33
What will be shown if the Terrain Inhibit Switch has been used?
TERR INOP will be displayed on the weather radar display
34
When will the mode 2 “terrain” callout stop?
When the aircraft has climbed 300 ft or when the radio altitude exceeds the detection range of the radio altimeter
35
When is mode 3 active?
Between 75 and 1500 ft after take off It is disabled when the aircraft has gained sufficient altitude and is no longer in the take off or go around mode
36
When is mode 4A armed?
Provides alerts to prevent a gear up landing Active once aircraft reaches 700 ft AGL after take off and below 1000 ft on approach
37
When will you get “too low gear” warning
When the aircraft descends below 500 ft and the gear is retracted
38
When is Mode 4B activated?
Aircraft is on approach with landing gear extended and flaps not in landing configuration Boundary is 1000 ft (decreases to 245 ft RA when speed is less than 259 kt)
39
What is the mode 4 sub mode priority?
Too low gear takes precedence over too low flaps
40
What will you get a “too low terrain” warning
When the terrain is rising faster than the aircraft is climbing Mode 4C active after take off or go around above 245 ft when landing gear and flaps are not in landing configuration
41
When will you get Mode 5 (glide slope) alerts
When aircraft has penetrated glideslope alert envelope and is below 1000 feet RA Soft aural alert if aircraft is more than 1.3 dots below the glideslope Hard alert when aircraft is below 300 ft RA and more than two dots below the glideslope Repetition rate of audio and flashing light will increase as the radio altitude decrease and the deviation increases
42
How can mode 5 be inhibited
When aircraft is less then 2000 ft by pressing either glideslope switch light
43
What call out will you get when the aircraft descends below the decision height
“Minimums minimums”
44
What call out will you get when the aircraft descends below the decision height
“Minimums minimums”
45
What is the weather radar coverage?
Up to 300 nm and will cover an arc of 45 degrees on each side of the aircraft
46
What is ground mapping mode?
Ground returns are also displayed on the EHSIs Mode selected to GMAP position
47
How is the weather radar powered?
By DC Bus 1 and the 26 VAC stby bus
48
How do you know the weather radar is inoperative?
The mode selector is in the OFF position and the WX message displayed in amber on the EHSIs
49
What is the weather radar standby mode?
The SBY position powers up the system - the antenna is not rotating and the weather radar transmitter is inhibited STBY is displayed in green on the EHSIs Radar will automatically return to standby mode after aircraft lands even if the selector is in the WX position
50
When is the weather radar operating?
When the mode selector is in the WX position Returns are displayed on the EHSIs when they are in ARC mode
51
When is the weather radar operating?
When the mode selector is in the WX position Returns are displayed on the EHSIs when they are in ARC mode
52
What is flight plan mode?
Mode selector in FP position Radar returns are removed from EHSI and EHSI is placed in flight plan mode Target alerts can be displayed - green TGT message on EHSIs
53
What is the range for target mode
Arc of plus or minus 7.5 degrees on each side of the aircraft When radar detects a precipitation level 3 or greater, TGT message turns amber
54
What will displayed in the test mode of weather radar?
Test pattern will be displayed on EHSIs and green TEST
55
How is the radar antenna adjusted
Tilt can be adjusted 15 degrees up or down by the TILT control knob
56
What is the radar range?
Between 5 and 300 nm In flight plan mode, range can be between 500 and 1000 nm
57
What will show when the gain is being manually set?
Amber VAR message
58
What is the react function?
Compensates the radar returns for attenuation due to radar signal travelling through precipitation - shows a more accurate picture of what’s happening behind a red zone Press RCT button to activate and RCT will show in green
59
When will WAIT show on the EHSI?
When the radar is still in the warm up mode After that WX RCT will appear in green
60
What will show when RCT mode and ground clutter reduction feature are used at the same time!?
CR/R in green on the EHSI
61
How is the radar antenna stabilised?
By the AHRS system Can be turned on or off by the STAB pb
62
What is the scan sweep on the radar antenna?
Arc of 120 degrees (EHSI can only displayed 45 degrees) Scan speed can be increased by pressing SECT button - rate increases to 24 sweeps (from 12) but reduces arc to 60 degrees
63
What does an amber WX mean?
Radar is selected on EFIS control panel but radar selected OFF on radar control box OR radar is not scanning when the radar is selected on EFIS control panel and radar control box
64
