Q

What is Motor Neuron Disease (MND)

A

It describes the progressive degeneration of motor neurons in the spinal cord, motor cortex and brain stem.

Current hypothesis focuses on abnormal mitochondrial function causing oxidative stress in motor neurons.

Q

MND Signs and symptoms?

A

Weakness of grip and upper limbs
dropping objects

16
Q

What causes Dementure?

A

Due to cerebrovascular disease (e.g. due to stroke) and poor oxygen delivery.

The main cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease, which accounts for around 60–70% of all cases. It is a progressive neurodegenerative condition characterized by abnormal protein build-up (amyloid plaques and tau tangles) in the brain, leading to the death of brain cells and loss of brain function over time.

17
Q

Alzheimers disease - what is it ?

A

Its a neurodegenerative disease of the cerebral cortex.
Alzheimer’s is linked to abnormal protein buildup in and around brain cells—amyloid plaques and tau tangles—which damage and kill neurons over time.

18
Q

What is the pathyphysiology for alzheimerz?

A

Associated with abnormal protein deposition (beta amyloid) atrophy of neurons and less acetylcholine in the brain.
