Subdural hematoma
1) Associated with tears in bridging veins
Epidural hematoma
1) Caused by fracture of temporal/parietal bones resulting in middle meningeal artery
Subarachanoid hemorrhage
1) Caused by rupture of berry aneursym
2) Most common in the bifurcation of the anterior communicating artery
i. Manifests as non-specific symptoms of malaise, headache, and fever
ii. Local paresthesias around the wound with manifestations
iii. Extraordinary CNS excitability
- Slightest touch is painful and results in violent motor responses
iv. Foaming at the mouth
Negri body- Rabies infection
Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus
What has taken place in the top section of the brain?
Depigmentation of the substania nigra
- Indicates Parkinson disease
Describe dermatomes C5-8 and L2-S1
What is the result of this lesion?
1) Loss of pain and temperature sensation
2) Occurs at C8-T1
2) Preservation of proprioception and vibratory sense
