Nitrate Transport Paper Flashcards

1
Q

What are LATS and HATS for Nitrogen uptake

A

LATS - low affinity nitrate transporter
Unregulated when there is a high abundance of nitrate in the soil

HATS - high affinity nitrate transporter
Unregulated when there is low amounts of nitrate in the soil

Symporters with H+

Q

How does the plant regulate between HAT and LAT expression?

A

CEP sense nitrate levels in soil -> travel from root to shoot.
CEP reception in shoot produces CEPD1/2
CEPD1/2 travel to roots and regulate transporter expression

Q

What amino acid substitution is involved in a phosphomimetic mutant

A

Typically Serine (S) —> Aspartate (D)

Leads to constitutive active phosphorylation state of the kinase

Q

What are the phosphorylation dynamics and nitrate uptake functions of the HAT, NRT2.1?

A

High N - phosphorylation of Ser501 functions = inactivation of the protein (no transport)
Low N – dephosphorylation of Ser501 = activation of the protein (high affinity transport)
