A

Describe the engine start sequence

A

a. The starter light next to the engine start switch illuminates.
b. At 14% NG, the FADEC arms the fuel and ignition control circuits. Four seconds later, ignition is energized and the fuel latching shutoff valve opens to start fuel flow (fuel flow may not be indicated until approximately 40% NG). Normal time from light up to stabilized NG is approximately 20 to 25 seconds.
c. Starter cutout occurs at approximately 65% NG, and the starter light extinguishes. Continuous ignition terminates at approximately 65% NG.
d. The time from starter switch select to NP on speed is approximately 30 seconds. Prestart propeller blade angle may affect the total time to NP on speed during engine start.
e. Normal hydraulic operating pressure should be indicated within 30 seconds after NP is on speed. This pressure may not be reached if the control column is in the full forward position due to internal bypass of fluid in the elevator boost package. Pulling the control column off its step 2 to 3 inches eliminates the bypass. The pressure indication is displayed on the HDD SYSTEM STATUS page.

How long do you wait before restarting an engine?

A

When restarting an engine on the ground, wait 30 seconds after NG indicates 0% before attempting a restart. This procedure must be followed to allow the NG independent overspeed circuit to be checked.

Why do do we try to get the fuel out of the aux tanks first?

A

Since the auxiliary tanks have one pump only, auxiliary tank fuel should be used first on long-range or over-water missions. If an auxiliary tank pump fails, this would assure sufficient fuel to return to the point of departure.

How is manifold priming performed?

A
  1. Place No. 1 MAIN transfer switch to FROM.
  2. Place X SHIP switch to open.
  3. Check FUEL PRESS indicator reads 28 to 40 PSI (noting actual pressure).
  4. Place No. 4 MAIN transfer switch to TO.
  5. Check FUEL PRESS indicator decreases approximately 20 PSI (indicating the fuel level control valve has opened).
  6. After 30 seconds, place No. 4 MAIN transfer switch to OFF and verify the FUEL PRESS indicator returns to the noted value observed in Step 3. (indicating the fuel level control valve has closed).

How do you enter crossfeed?

A

Fuel crossfeed from the auxiliary or external tanks must be performed as follows:

  1. Place the L AUX or L EXT tank transfer switch to FROM.
  2. Place the X SHIP switch to open.
  3. Place the No. 2 ENG X FEED switch to open. Ensure No. 2 engine is stable and operating normally on crossfeed, then place the No. 1 ENG X FEED switch to open.
  4. Place the X SHIP switch to closed.
  5. Place the R AUX or R EXT tank transfer switch to FROM.
  6. Place the No. 3 ENG X FEED switch to open. Ensure No. 3 engine is stable and operating normally on crossfeed, then place the No. 4 ENG X FEED switch to open.
  7. Use the transfer, ENG X FEED, and X SHIP switches as required to burn fuel equally from auxiliary and/or external tanks.
  8. When auxiliary or external tanks are empty:
    a. Place the ENG X FEED switches to closed.
    b. Place the transfer switches to OFF.
    c. Place the X SHIP switch to closed.

omitted.

A

If full anti-skid braking is used for landing, the gear should be left extended after an immediate subsequent takeoff for a minimum of 15 minutes before retracting the gear or before another braked landing is attempted. Weight of the airplane should be 130K and below.
