who was Tostig
Tostig was brother of Harold Godwin and was removed as earl of Northumbria in 1065 and sent to exile in Flanders

- occupied town of sandwich for a while then sailed up river Humber and carried out raids in Leicester

-Viking’s caught not ready and Lone Viking killed 40 Englishmen single handedly until someone stuck a sword up Stamford bridge and killed
-Harold’s army twice as large
-Harold tried to persuade Tostig saying he would reinstate
another used shield wall and both hardrada and Tostig slain
-only 24/300 ships needed to bring Viking’s back

- now peace between Godwin and Viking’s as hardradas son Olav offers himself up and Godwin agrees to let him leave as long as he swore loyalty
