What is a noun?

A noun is a word that refers to a person, place, thing or idea.

What is the difference between common and proper nouns?

Common nouns are everyday things that do not indicate a special person or place. These are not capitalized.

Proper nouns indicate a special person or place. These are capitalized.

What's the difference between concrete and abstract nouns?

Concrete nouns are perceivable by physical senses.

Abstract nouns are not perceivable by senses.

What is the difference between collective and compound nouns?

Collective nouns are a singular noun that names a group.

Ex. Flock, children

Compound nouns are a group of 2 or more nouns that acts as a noun itself. They can be hyphenated or multiple words.

Ex. Attorney general or daughter-in-law
