Fact: One of the Shorter books of the NT
Purpose: Written to Philemon concerning his slave Onesimus. Seeks to reconcile the two
Themes:
1. Reconciling work of Christ that transforms
2. Shows that Christians bond is deeper than their social standing.
3. Raises many questions about slavery. Ultimately, slavery undermined by the gospel

A

Author: Peter
Purpose: Written to encourage Christians to stand firm in their faith in light of suffering.
Themes:
1. They are born again to a living hope in Christ
2. Called to live holy lives as elect exiles
3. Applies OT language of Israel to Christians (They are a chosen nation, royal priesthood, etc..)
4. Christ as an example of how to suffer
5. Living in light of the end, as they are called to remember their inheritance.

2 Peter

A

Author: Peter
Purpose: Calls the church to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord
Fact: Written with his death in view. Shares much with Jude
Themes:
1. Calls them to make their calling and election sure. Grow
2. The Word of Christ is a sure word, not cleverly devised
3. False prophets and teachers to be judged
4. Christ return will happen and should live in light of it

Purpose: To encourage to walk in the truth and how to treat false teachers.
Themes:
1. Walking in the truth
2. To reject false teachers (do not even receive them)
3. Support true teaching
