Organ Systems Flashcards
What is the digestive system function?
Take in food
Digest food into smaller molecules and absorb nutrients
Remove indigestible food from body
Digestive system interactions with Circulatory Muscular and Nervous
W/Circulatory- absorb and deliver nutrients to cells
W/Muscular- control contractions to help move food through digestive tract
W/Nervous- hypothalamus maintains homeostasis by triggering appetite
What is the circulatory system function?
Transport materials to and from cells throughout the body
Circulatory interactions with respiratory digestive and excretory
W/Respiratory- deliver O2 from Lungs to cells and drop off CO2 from cells to lungs
W/Digestive- absorb and deliver digested nutrients to cells
W/Excretory- kidneys filter cellular waste out of blood for removal
Circulatory interactions with lymphatic immune nervous and endocrine
W/Lymphatic- both transport things to and from cells
W/Immune- transports WBC throughout the body to fight disease
W/Nervous- brain controls heartbeat
W/Endocrine- transports hormones
What is the nervous system function?
Gathers and interprets information
Responds to information
Helps maintain homeostasis
Nervous system interaction with other systems
Controls all systems
Hypothalamus- maintains homeostasis by working with all systems
What is the excretory system function?
Removes waste products from cellular metabolism
Filters blood
Excretory interaction with circulatory lungs and integumentary systems
W/Circulatory- filters waste out of blood
W/Lungs- removes excretory waste
W/Integumentary- removes excretory waste
What is the respiratory system function?
Takes in oxygen and removes carbon dioxide and water
What is the respiratory system interaction with circulatory
Excretory
Nervous and muscular systems
W/Circulatory- takes in O2 for delivery to cells removes CO2 brought from cells
W/Excretory- removes excretory waste
W/Nervous- controls breathing
W/Muscular-Diaphragm controls breathing
What is the skeletal system function?
Protects organs Provides shape and support Stores materials Produces blood cells Allows movement
Skeletal system interactions with muscular circulatory immune and circulatory/respiratory
W/Muscle- allows movement
W/Circulatory- produce blood cells
W/Immune- produce white blood cells
W/Circulatory and Respiratory- protects its organs
What is the integumentary systems function? (Skin)
Barrier against infections Helps regulate body temp Removes excretory waste Protects against suns UV rays Produces vitamin D
What is the integumentary systems interaction with excretory nervous and immune
W/Excretory- removes cellular waste
W/Nervous- controls body temp
W/Immune- prevents pathogens from entering
