List the Nine Organelles
Nucleus
Plasma membrane
Mitochondria
Golgi apparatus
Endoplasmic reticulum
Ribosomes
Cytoskeleton
Cytoplasm
Lysosomes
What’s the function of the nucleus
Contains our genetic information, DNA and RNA and controlls cellular activity by directing protein synthesis.
What’s the function of the plasma membrane?
Controls the entry and exit substances in the cell
What’s the function of the mitochondria?
Generates ATP via cellular respiration.
What’s the function of the Golgi apparatus?
Modifies and packages, proteins and lipids synthesised by the endoplasmic reticulum ready to be delivered to their final destination.
What’s the function of the endoplasmic reticulum?
Smooth, lacks ribosomes, and synthesises, lipids and dioxifies drugs.
Rough has ribosomes synthesises protein via mRNA translation.
What’s the function of ribosomes?
Reads genetic information contained in the mRNA and assembles amino acids into chains synthesising proteins.
What’s the function of the cytoplasm?
It’s a gel like substance that fills the cell acting as scaffolding for organelles
What’s the function of the cytoskeleton?
Made up of a network of filaments, it’s involved in cell division, intracellular, transport, and cellular movement.
What’s the function of lysosomes?
Contains a digestive enzyme that breaks down proteins, lipids and carbohydrates and is also involved in the removal of waste products and foreign particles.
How many cells are in your body?
Around 100 trillion
What is a cell?
The basic unit of life.
