  • Client and patient names
  • Can have appointment at home or in practice
  • At home can be more comfortable but comes with extra cost
  • In practice; private room
  • Vet will talk through consent form, ensure understanding and ask to sign
  • Can be with pet or wait elsewhere
  • IV placed, time given, overdose of anaesthetic injected
  • Pet will go to sleep and heart will stop, unaware
  • Will not close eyes, likely to empty bladder and bowels
  • Can see agonal breathing, not aware or alive during this
  • Burial or cremation

  • Monitor everyday for signs of complications; redness, swelling, discharge, bleeding
  • Seek advice if seeing any of these
  • Use BC etc. to prevent self mutilation, BC best, PMS lick through, Inflatable collar not always appropriate if can reach round
  • Fit anti-mutilation aid
