P3 - electricity Flashcards
(17 cards)
What does friction cause ?
Electrons to be transferred
What does LEPGEN stand for ?
Lose electrons positive, gain electons negative
What is electric current (I) ?
The flow of charge
What is potential difference (V) ?
The driving factor that pushes or pulls the charges around
- If there is potential difference there will be a current
What is charge measured in ?
Coulombs (C)
What is current measured in ?
Amps (A)
What does a cell provide ?
Gives energy to each charge
What is a series circuit ?
A circuit where there is only one pathway
What is a parallel circuit ?
A circuit with more that one paths
What do the current in the branches add up to in a parallel circuit ?
The current in the 2 branches add up to the original current
What shape is an IV curve ?
An ‘S’ shape
How does a circuit follow ohms law ?
If the current and voltage are directly proportionak then it follows ohms law
How does a circuit not follow ohms law ?
If the current is not directly proprtional to the voltage
What is a sensing circuit ?
A circuit that changes based on enviromental factors
i.e. thermistor & LDR
What a variable resistor ?
A resistor who’s resistance can vary & change
What does TURD mean ?
Temprature up, resistance down
What does LURD mean ?
Light up resistance down
