Changing the genome (DNA) of an organism

How does generic engineering work?
A
Gene for a characteristics is ‘cut out’ of a chromosome (using an enzyme)
Gene is inserted into a chromosome inside the nucleus of a cell in a different organism
The cell of the organism produces the characteristics from the gene

A
Plants that have been genetically modified to give new characteristics like resistant to attack by insects or resistant herbicides
