Flashcards in Patho - Neuro Deck (22):
1
Blastomere
Cells from the first mitotic division in the pre-embryonic stage of fetal development
2
Morula
Consists of 12-16 blastomeres and is formed around day 4 of the pre-embryonic stage of fetal development
3
Blastocyst
A fetal development structure formed in the pre-embryonic stage from the morula that consists of an inner and outer cell mass
4
Embryo
The inner cell mass of a blastocyst
5
Trophoblasts
Form the placenta, or outer cell mass of a blastocyst
6
Syncytiotrophoblasts
Trophoblasts which link to the endometrial lining of the uterus
7
Cytotrophoblasts
Trophoblasts which make up the part of the fetus that faces out to the uterine cavity
8
Neurulation
The process of neural tube formation during the embryonic stage of fetal development
9
Primary neurulation
The infolding of the neural plate
10
Secondary neurulation
Sacral and coccygeal formation
11
Somites
Arise from the mesoderm, represent dermatomal development of the fetus
12
Radial glia
An immature type of astrocyte that is important for migrating neuroblasts
13
Superior neuropore
Closes at day 27... anencephaly occurs if it does not close
14
Inferior neuropore
Closes at day 30... spina bifida occurs if it does not close
15
Neural crest cells
Make up the peripheral nervous system
16
Notochord
Composed of cells that migrate up from the mesoderm... defines the long axis of the spinal cord, becomes the nucleus pulposus
17
Colchicine
A medication to treat gout which increases the uric acid excretion in the kidneys... it blocks microtubules' development which can cause neural tube defects
18
Alar plate
Situated dorsal to the basal plate... has a sensory function and becomes the dorsal horn
19
Basal plate
Situated ventral to the alar plate... has a motor function and becomes the ventral horn
20
Sclerotome
Part of a somite which differentiates to form the vertebrae and the skull
21
Polyneuronal development
Cell migration that occurs in the fetal stage of fetal development and is usually complete by week 25
