what is peri aortitis ?

inflammatory condition which typically involves the infrarenal portion of the abdominal aorta

state some causes of peri aortitis ?

idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis
inflammatory AAA

what is idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis ?

autoimmune vasculitis resulting in fibrinoid necrosis of the small/medium retroperitoneal vessels

Drugs: β-B, bromocriptine, methysergide, methyldopa

AI disease: thyroiditis, SLE, ANCA+ vasculitis

what is the presentation of peri aortitis?

Middle–aged male
 Vague loin, back or abdo pain
 ↑ BP
 Chronic urinary tract obstruction

waht investigations should be done for peri aortitis ?

 Blood: ↑U and Cr, ↑ESR/CRP, ↓Hb
 US: bilateral hydronephrosis + medial ureteric deviation
 CT/MRI: peri-aortic mass
 Biopsy: exclude Ca

no very rare
