Photosynthesis Flashcards
(12 cards)
What is made at the end of the Calvin Cycle?
G3P (sugars)
What is another name for the light-independent reaction?
Calvin Cycle
What two things are sent back to the light side once the Calvin Cycle is over?
NADP+ and ADP
In what part of the chloroplast does the Calvin Cycle (Dark Reaction) take place?
Stroma
What gas is needed by the Calvin Cycle before it can start?
Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Why are plants green?
Plants contain a pigment molecule known as chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs red and blue wavelengths, but reflects green wavelengths. This gives the plants their green color.
Where does the Hydrogen for NADPH come from?
The splitting of water
Define the compounds:
6CO2 + 6H2O + light > C6H12O6 + 6O2
Carbon Dioxide + Water + Light > Sugar (Glucose) + Oxygen
What are the three parts of an ATP molecule?
Adenine, Sugar, 3 Phosphate Groups
How many phosphate groups are in one molecule of ADP?
2 Phosphate Groups
How many phosphate groups are in one molecule of ATP?
3 Phosphate Groups
In what part of the chloroplast do the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis take place?
Thylakoid Membrane
