plant nitrogen fixation Flashcards

1
Q

what happens in the small protein of the nitrogenous complex?

A
  • ferredoxin oxidizes, releases an electron which goes to large protein
  • creates energy by converting Fe III into Fe II

Q

what happens in the large protein of the nitrogenous complex?

A
  • MoFeS takes in atmospheric N2
  • MoFe III uses electron and energy to convert N2 into NH3

Q

describe the steps of rhizobia forming nodules

A

1) root hairs release flavonoids to attract rhizobia
2) rhizobia interacts with flavonoids and produces nod factors
3) rhizobia reproduce and spread through infection threads
4) infection threads bud and form clusters
5) nod factors bind signalling factors to membrane to trigger nodule formation
