-ABBA rhyme scheme. Perfection of form reflects perfection of city
-Petrarchan sonnet, expressing love and immense feelings for the city, showing how certain places can bring out strong emotions - surprising to be city as a Romantic poet (!)
-Volta is 9th line, shift in topic

“Earth has not anything to show more fair.”
-Personification of Earth suggests it is proud of the view, the city is something worth being proud of
-Comparative adjective of more emphasises the beauty of the scene
-Hyperbolic statement “any thing” shows how its beauty is unique and special

“This City now doth, like a garment, wear/ The beauty of the morning”
-Personification of the city as wearing the beauty and simile of like a garment suggests it can be taken off
-Adverb of now conveys the time and shows that it is only this specific moment, making it more unique and special
-Shows that when factories start (anti IR) the beauty will be removed as smoke is emitted into air, ruining city

-Hyperbaton (unusual change of syntax) used to demonstrate how unusual and special the beauty he sees is

-Reference to God “his”, hyperbole as saying that neither Sun or God have seen anything more beautiful than city, even nature

“Dear God! the very houses seem asleep; And all that mighty heart is lying still!”
-Exclamative suggest his intense emotions as he sees the view
-Personification of houses as asleep suggests that it is tranquil due to lack of human activity (anti IR) and is temporary due to time
-Metaphor for people of London, shows that the beauty is present because the people and industry has not woken up
