1

Prophase

(1); chromatin fibers in the nucleus coil and duplicate becoming two identical sister chromatids bound at the waist by the centromere

The nuclear envelop falls away from the chromosomes; spindle fibers form and attach to centromeres moving the chromosomes towards the center of the cell

2

Metaphase

(2) Chromosomes line up in the center of the cell; the spindle fibers attach to to either side of the chromosome, pulling the sister chromatids in opposite directions

3

Anaphase

(3)Sister chromatids split apart and move towards opposite sides of the cell; unattached spindle fibers push against opposite sides of the cell elongating it

4

Telophase

(4)Two groups of chromosomes reach opposite sides of the cell; nuclear envelopes form around them, chromosomes uncoil and spindle fibers disappear

5

Cytokinesis

(5)The cytoplasm is divided and the cell splits in two, producing two identical daughter cells
