Q

when question gives scale unit and another value and wanting to find out diagram size / original size how to approch

A
  • you write out scale factor as a fraction
  • make it as a proportion = (then solve

! (if the other value it gave is ^2 or ^3 then you hav to have scale unit to those powers as well) !

Q

when question gives the dimentions of one thing then the area of the other in ^2 or ^3

wanting dimensions of new thing (the one that told u area) in linear scale

A

1) draw out cute pic with dimentions on one area with the other (whats given)
2) use one of the formulas for scale factor new/orig or diagram/actual
3) then √ or cube root to get k=
4) use dimensions given times by k

Q

when question gives the capacity of two things

asking how many times longer will it take to fill / smaller how to solve

A

1) use formula to find the k^3 (doesn’t matter to what power formula same) divide larger by smaller

just remember answer in ^3

Q

how to do grid question asking perimeter and given scale ratio

A

1) count each squares per side then add them all toghether
2) write out 1/ (how many per grid = to) then proportion with squares added toghether in (diagram/actual) its diagram just to get the grids to be in how theyre = to
3) then after get answer from proportion above as diagram aswell then find actual (cross multiply then /

Q

how to do grid question asking for area

A

1) spilt diagram in half then times L times W on both (numbers should be there from preminter counting each box)
2)then add both areas together then use how much one grid / (what one grid = to ) proportion with area to get area in what grid = to
3) then use scale ratio given to area from proportion above to find = to

Q

whenever proportion and a unit is to power 2 or 3 what do you need to remember to do

A

you need to remember to raise the scale factor to that power then some normally

( then if wants in linear scale factor square root or cube root )
