Delayed onset

A

1) later event gives original event new (more threatening) meaning.

2) Trauma reminders only become available after some time (eg when released from hospital)

*not binary, most times, already have some symptoms but worsen after time

A

Increased external and internal reminders ( eg people who ask, activation of reminders)

Frozen in time

A

Eg veterans who still dress as if in active duty, not cleaning out a room of a child who passed away.

disconnection through extreme intrusions. not being able to move on

Talking/thinking about trauma doesn’t help

A

1) ruminating, stuck in same thought pattern despite trying.

2) only talking about the bad factors, emotional avoidance

The way they think about it is not helpful, they’re not processing it and looking at the aspect that they can’t change. Not getting into the meaning, the painful parts, or the fact that they couldn’t have prevented it etc.
