Purifier Flashcards

1
Q

Explain what is Separation Temperature?

A

The separation temperature is a critical parameter that refers to the temperature at which the separation of different components in a fluid occurs most effectively. The separation temperature is sent to us after we send the analysis after bunkering. A separation temp is not always 98 percent because it depends on the characteristics of our fuel. A separation temperature is the temperature where in large density difference between the oil and the impurities so that when we maintain in that temperature, the separation process is more effective.

Q

What is the relationship of the gravity disc and the density of the fuel?

A

Inversely proportional. High density = smaller diameter of gravity disc and vice versa.

Q

How can you achieve a greater quality of the fuel output in a purifier?

A

By reducing the flow rate to a purifier.

Q

What are the four factors affecting the position of the Oil Interface?

A
  1. Viscosity
  2. Density (by changing the size of the Grav Disc)
  3. Temperature (excessive temp of fuel can cause the interface to move INWARD) (inversely proportional to the viscosity)
  4. Flow/Feed Rate

Q

Two types of “suka” in the purifier?

A
  1. Sliding bowl and bowl hood in between (because of the main seal ring)
  2. The fuel goes to the Heavy Liquid outlet

Q

What is the cause of inward and outward of the interface?

A

Inward = High Temp / Low Visco (water to service tank)
Low level of settling tank the temp will rise = inward interface because of low viscosity
Outward = Low Temp / High Visco (oil to water outlet) (breaks the seal and alarm)
Inward = Low Feed Rate
Outward = High feed Rate (the disc stacks cannot accomodate the fuel)

Q

When can you apply the troubleshooting of the purfier?

A
  1. Check the peephole if where the leak is coming from
  2. During starting of the purifier SOMETIMES as oil is not heated up properly (low temp & high visco)
Solution: Restart the purifier and maintain the heating
