Deltoid
Origin - lateral one-third of the clavicle, acromion, spine of the scapula
Insertion - deltoid tuberosity
Trapezius
O - ligamentum nuchae, spinous processes of C7-T12
I - lateral one-third of scapula, acromion, spine of the scapula
A - UPPER FIBERS: elevate the scapula, extend head and neck
MIDDLE FIBERS: adduct the scapula, stabilize the scapula
LOWER FIBERS: depress the scapula, upwardly rotate the scapula
Latissimus dorsi
O - inferior surface of scapula, thoraculumbar fascia, posterior iliac crest
I - intertubercular groove of humerus
A - extend the shoulder, adduct the shoulder, medially rotate the shoulder
Teres major
O - inferior angle and lower one-third of the lateral border of the scapula
I - crest of the greater tubercle of humerus
A - extend the shoulder, medially rotate the shoulder, adduct the shoulder
Supraspinatus
O - supraspinous fossa of the scapula
I - greater tubercle of the humerus
A - abduct shoulder, stabilize the head of the humerus
Infraspinatus
O - infraspinous fossa of the scapula
I - greater tubercle of the humerus
A - laterally rotate the shoulder, adduct the shoulder
Teres minor
O - upper two-thirds of the lateral border of the scapula
I - greater tubercle of the humerus
A - laterally rotate and adduct the shoulder
Subscapularis
O - subscapular fossa of the scapula
I - lesser tubercle of the humerus
A - medially rotate the shoulder
Rhomboid major
O - spinous processes of T2 - T5
I - medial border of the scapula between the spine of the scapula and inferior angle
A - adduction, elevation and downward rotation of the scapula
Rhomboid minor
O - spinous processes of C7 - T1
I - upper portion of medial border of the scapula, across from spine of the scapula
A - adduct, elevate and downward the scapula
Levator scapula
O - transverse processes of C1-C4
I - medial border of scapula, between superior angle and superior portion of spine of scapula
A - elevate the scapula, laterally flex the head, extend the head and neck
Serratus anterior
O - external surfaces of upper eight or nine ribs
I - anterior surface of medial border of scapula
A - abduct and depress the scapula,
Pectoralis major
O - medial half of clavicle, sternum and cartilage of 1st - 6th rib
I - crest of greater tubercle of humerus
A - adduct the shoulder, medailly rotate the shouldr
Pectoralis minor
O - 3rd, 4th and 5th ribs
I - medial surface of coracoid process
A - depress the scapula, abduct the scapula
Biceps brachii
O - SHORT HEAD: coracoid process
LONG HEAD: supraglenoid tubercle of scapula
I - tuberosity of radius and aponeurosis of the biceps brachii
A - flex the elbow, supinates the forearm, flex the shoulder
Triceps brachii
O - LONG HEAD: infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula
LATERAL HEAD: posterior surface of proximal half of the humerus
MEDAIL HEAD: posterior surface of distal half of the humerus
I - olecronon process of the ulna
A - extend the elbow and shoulder, adduct the shoulder
Coracobrachialis
O - coracoid process of the scapula
I - medial surface of mid-humeral shaft
A - flex and adduct the shoulder
Brachial artery - palpation
In the supine position: Palpate on the medial side of the humerus at the height of the m. Coracobrachialis, between the m. Triceps brachii and m. Biceps brachii.
Gently press the fingertips towards the corpus humerus to feel the pulsation of the artery.
