Raft Equipments Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is a Lifeline?
Fixed along both sides of the raft to enable survivors in the sea to hold on to the sides until they can be Assisted aboard.
What are Locator Lights?
Fitted on top of the raft at both sides to guide rescue services. Powered by water activated batteries, they illuminate automatically when the raft enters the water.
What is the purpose of the Topping-Off Valve?
For connection of the hand pump to top-up the buoyancy chambers.
What is a Boarding Station?
Equipped with a boarding ladder and straps.
What is a Sea Anchor?
To deploy, firmly pull the sea anchor deployment lanyard until the sea anchor can be seen drifting behind the raft. It reduces drift rate to a minimum and improves raft stability by keeping the raft headed into wind and waves.
What is a Heaving/Trailing Line?
Used to rescue survivors from the water using the rubber ring attached to the line and also to tie up to other rafts. It is located next to the sea anchor.
What is a Hand Pump?
A hand pump is located in the survival kit. It is provided with a rope to prevent it from being lost.
How to fix the Canopy?
The canopy comes with three centre struts for erecting the canopy. Screw the centre struts together and drape the canopy over the struts in the direction of the wind. The canopy has markings on it, one says, ‘this side up’ and the other says ‘Board End’.
Where should the ELT be attached?
To be attached diagonally opposite end of the raft where the sea anchor is attached.
