1
What is cardiac index?
CI=CO/Body surface
*it normalizes cardiac output for body type.
*young kids & old ppl have a low CI.
2
While a higher HR causes increased CO...what happens when you reach a HR of like 175 bpm?
Once you reach a super high HR the ventricle doesn't have enough time to fill properly. This decreases preload & SV & CO.
3
What is the implication of a high mean systemic filling pressure on venous return?
The higher it is...the more the venous return curve is shifted outward-->this means that at a low RA pressure...there will be greater venous return.
