Catholics: strongly agree as they oppose same sex marriage and don’t allow civil marriage services.

Q

What is the Roman Catholic view on divorce?

A

They do not accept divorce.
They are very strict and believe its a sacred bond so if they remarry, they can’t receive holy communion.
In the eyes of Roman Catholics, a couple is married for life so remarriage is adultery.
Annulments are often allowed which is a deceleration that the marriage never took place properly.

What’s the Islamic attitude to divorce?

A

Although it is highly discouraged, it IS allowed but is considered a last resort and one of the most hated things by Allah.

Men:
Can say “I divorce you” which is followed by the Iddah period of 3 months giving time for reflection and reconciliation. If they aren’t back together, the couple are then divorced. If there’s been reconciliation, they are still married and this can be repeated 3 times.

Women:
The same as men if agreed before they were married.
Otherwise, the have to ask for a divorce and present her case to a court.

(For adultery, desertion, abuse, insults to her parents, lack of companionship etc.)

A

Catholic: can remarry under the circumstance that if you receive an annulment, then you’re able to remarry however if you divorce then you’re still married in the eyes of the church and remarriage is seen as adultery. Not unless the partner has died.

Protestant: some believe that those who remarry are unworthy to receive communion however the common view is that divorce and marital separation are allowed and so remarriage is allowed on the ground of assault, adultery or desertion. If not, they may still be considered married.

Islam: divorce is allowed but is a last resort. This means the couple can remarry but, if they want to remarry each other, they can 3 times but, after the third time, they can’t remarry each other until the woman marries another man and he divorces her.
