  • sharp dry cough, nasal discharge, mild febrile, tachypnoea, expiratory wheeze

Causes of stridor

A
  • inside trachea: inhaled foreign body, croup, epiglottitis
  • within wall: laryngomalacia (most common), stenosis (granuloma from trauma)
  • outside trachea: vascular ring, enlarged lymph node

  • barking cough, harsh stridor, hoarseness, fever
  • supportive O2 care, oral dexamethasone, steroid nebs, may need ET tube

difference between presentation of croup and epiglottitis

A
  • epiglottitis presents over hours compared to days with only a slight cough, not able to swallow and vvvv unwell
  • croup- presents over days, loud cough, swallowing not impaired mild febrile illness
