- RSV (most common), influenza
- sharp dry cough, nasal discharge, mild febrile, tachypnoea, expiratory wheeze
- supportive: o2 (CPAP), saline nebs, consider NG tube
- Palivuzumab- for high risk babies i.e prem or heart disease

Causes of stridor
A
- inside trachea: inhaled foreign body, croup, epiglottitis
- within wall: laryngomalacia (most common), stenosis (granuloma from trauma)
- outside trachea: vascular ring, enlarged lymph node

- barking cough, harsh stridor, hoarseness, fever
- supportive O2 care, oral dexamethasone, steroid nebs, may need ET tube

difference between presentation of croup and epiglottitis
A
- epiglottitis presents over hours compared to days with only a slight cough, not able to swallow and vvvv unwell
- croup- presents over days, loud cough, swallowing not impaired mild febrile illness

- failure to thrive, nasal polyps,
- bronchiectasis, diabetes, distal intestinal obstruction, pancreatic insufficiency, cirrhosis, pneumothorax
