What’s the meaning of ‘aim’?

A

The intention of a piece of research

What is a hypothesis?

A

Specific prediction of the outcome of a study

What’s the meaning of ‘experimental condition’?

A

Condition used to experiment e.g. hot room, cold room

What’s an independent variable?

A

The different conditions e.g. hot room

What’s a dependent variable?

A

What you’re measuring e.g. how much orange juice consumed

What’s a confounding variable?

A

Variables that may have affected the DV, so we cannot be sure of the changes to the DV

What’s an extraneous variable?

A

Variables that have an effect on the DV if it isn’t controlled e.g. IQ or participants

What is meant by ‘operationalise’?

A

To make the IV and DV crystal clear, so psychologists can carry out research

A

Original data gathered by the researcher themselves, specifically for the purpose of the investigation
