  • Before someone lived in the villa, Kelts would’ve lived there, in the round house.
  • The villa could’ve been built to impress the Romans.

A

Timber, wattle, daub; tiles or thatch for the roof. 4-5 rooms. Linked by a corridor. Similar to ones in Roman Gaul

What shape was a later Roman villa? What materials was it made of? How many rooms? What might affect where they build the villa? Other details?

A

Rectangular or a compound shape. Made of stone or concrete. 15+ rooms. The terrain would’ve affected where you build the villa, also practical advantages: water source, protection for prevailing winds… They had workshops, barns, living quarters for slaves, floor heating, mosaics and complicated designs.

A

24th of August AD 79. Pliny the younger to Tacitus the historian. Prevailing North winds. 2000. Gases, crowds, pummis falling from the sky, people coming in the opposite direction through the narrow gates to reach their families and money.

  2. It’s 20m under ground level
  3. When the volcano erupted, volcanic mud covered H., this then cooled down and covered the town in concrete

What shape was a house from Roman Britain? How many rooms? What was it made of? What shape was the roof? Where was the fire usually located?

A

Circular. It had one room. It was made of daub, wattle, clay and thatch. The roof was cone-shaped. The fire was normally in the middle of the floor.
