Fines- a set amount of money that must be paid by the accused as a punishment

Differentiate between specific deterrence and general deterrence
Specific deterrence- to discourage an individual from re-offending
General deterrence- to discourage the general community from commuting a crime
Describe three aims of punishment
Retribution- involves the concept of revenge. Make the offender pay for their crime
Deterrence- Deter or discourage an offender from repeating criminal conduct
Rehabilitation- to change and resume a normal life
Distinguish between remand, bail and parole
Remand- Detention of a person in legal custody until their trial
Bail- the release of a person whilst they are awaiting a hearing or trail
Parole- The release of a prisoner back into society under the care and supervision of Community Corrections officer usually with conditions attached
