What is Biosafety level two?

A

Level two are labs where there is a potential for human disease to occur if things are not handled correctly. There is the potential for mucous membrane exposure, ingestion or puncture. Precautions will vary by agent being worked with.

A

Level three are labs where there is a potential to cause serious and deadly disease. There is typically a governing body at this level of lab. Often work with highly contagious illness. Require controlled access and decontamination. All staff are required to undergo exposure testing.

A

Level four are labs where there is a high risk of life threatening disease such as Ebola, Marburg virus. Maximum containment facilities. Typically shower in and shower out. Full body PPE with air supply. All employees have extensive training.
